Pomona Hope Summer Internship Program
Since 2008, the Pomona Hope Summer Internship has been an important part of our mission to bring transformation to the people, families, and neighborhoods of Pomona. Our purpose in creating the internship is two-fold; giving outstanding college students an opportunity to serve in an at-risk community while receiving an invaluable experience of living in a Christian community.

How interns serve:

Interns work in collaboration with our staff and each other to design the Summer Enrichment Program for our kids and youth. While planning sessions in reading enhancement, our interns in previous years have designed fun classes in math, drama, music, local history, film, visual arts, and science!

Interns help recruit our kids and youth, help with parent and volunteer orientation, and creatively assist our staff in creating a great summer experience for our Pomona Hope community.

On some weekends and weeknights, interns also work with the First Presbyterian Church’s youth ministries. Here, they chaperone field trips, give talks and lead bible studies and recreational time.

How interns receive:

A faith-based organization, Pomona Hope believes that the transformation of our community must begin with a spiritual transformation of ourselves. To that end, Pomona Hope requires our interns to live in a Christian community. Interns live together on-site, (housing is free), and fully participate in the life of our partner ministry, the First Presbyterian Church of Pomona. While getting their feet wet in an urban ministry context, interns join in community dinners, worship, and Bible Study. Interns read and discuss several books that articulate Pomona Hope’s core values (community, empowerment, and discipleship.) Interns are paired with older mentors who have spent years following Jesus in the city and meet weekly to debrief their experiences.
